List of Popular Joomla Extensions

List of Popular Joomla Extensions

JoomlaShack just posted their top 10 extensions in the poll they were doing.

Ultimate Top Ten Joomla Extensions REVEALED

I have to say, I agree with most of them.

  • Virtuemart – one of the full featured cart systems for Joomla.
  • Joomlapack – the way to backup.  I am going to have give this one another try.  When I had a joomla site on godaddy joomlapack just didn’t work.  Now that I have left godaddy, maybe it will.
  • JCE – everyone needs a good editor.
  • Kenena – this is a forum previously called, fireboard, taken over by a new group.  Debate is still out.  I haven’t been overly impressed with joomla forums.  Either fireboard or agora.  PHPBB3 is my favorite with a bridge.
  • Community Builder – I have used it and it just seems old and clunky.
  • JomSocial – Its a great start and feels more modern than Community Builder.  Definitely want a few more features here and the developers are very active and adding them.
  • sh404SEF – Required for a site although it sometimes make me want to pull my hair out.
  • Phoca Photo Gallery & JCal Pro – haven’t tried either..  Although I love joomgallery.
  • Docman – very nice document download system

It didn’t make the top 10 but was runner-up. but it is a necessary extension for a joomla site:

  • xmap

Some of my favorites that didn’t make the list:

  • AEC – powerful membership application
  • Chronoforms – forms
  • Extensions from Gavick to display content in a cool up to date way
  • JoomGallery – photo gallery.   Easy to administer and easy for the users to use.

jSecure hides your Joomla administrator URL with a special key so that only you can access. The problem with Joomla is that anyone can tell if your site is Joomla by simply typing in the default URL to the administration area (i.e. jSecure helps you hide the fact that your website is built with Joomla from prying eyes.
